Hope is the light which one keeps following till the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, not everyone has the patience nor the courage needed to get there. However, those who have, could eventually make it, and Russel J. Ledet is a living proof.
Russel J. Ledet was a security guard at Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Los Angeles. After 7 years, he is now assigned to the hospital as a medical student and is in his third year at Tulane University School of Medicine.
“It just so happened, God put me in the right place at the right time, and it worked,” said Ledet.
The 34 years old is a health disparities advocate, speaker, community cultivator, and a change maker, as mentioned in his LinkedIn profile.
Ledet was raised by a single mother and both were struggling at the time. His plan was to be a social worker, like the ones who have assisted him as a child.
However, his chemistry professor at Southern University and A&M College had other plans for him. Based on his performance in class, he advised him to major in biology or chemistry.
The ambitious man he is, Ledet double majored in both sciences, and worked as a security guard in the hospital to support his family.
In addition to his mother, the medical student also has a wife, Mallory Alice Brown-Ledet, who works in a bank. The couple has 2 daughters named Maleah and Mahlina.
In 2013, Ledet graduated from college and resigned from the security guard job. He completed his studies at New York University and earned his PhD in molecular oncology in 2018.
Be that as it may, his experience at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center was remarkable enough that he decided to apply for medical school.
He said that “being in a hospital was to some degree a motivating place, because you saw these really smart and talented people walking around who were really cool to be around.”
Born under a lucky star, Ledet received an email from Tulane University School of Medicine and got a full scholarship.
